Groups.io: Changelog
October 23, 2026
Hoogtepunten
- We redesigned the calendar: event pages put the date, location and your RSVP first, the add and edit event page is reorganized, and the Responses page can be filtered by response.
- The site's colors, alerts, form text and panel headings were refreshed so they are consistent, easier to read and meet the WCAG AA contrast standard in light and dark mode.
- The Changelog page can now be filtered by area and type and searched, and this weekly email is organized by area.
- A new Default Event Color setting sets the color that new events in a group start with.
- Joining a subgroup of a subgroup now adds you to the subgroup above it in the same step, if that subgroup is open to new members.
Editor & Drafts
- CHANGE: When you click on a link in the editor, a small box appears with the link's address. Clicking into that box now selects the whole address, so pasting a new one replaces it. Click again to place the cursor in the address. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41479
- CHANGE: In the Insert/Edit Link window, the Title box is now called "Tooltip text (optional)". The text you enter there is shown when someone points at the link, for example "(Login to Groups.io required)". https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41479
- BUGFIX: When you pasted pictures into a message on the website, such as photos copied from another program, the message could be sent with grey "Uploading..." boxes in place of the pictures, and members receiving it by email got an attachment they couldn't open. Pasted pictures are now included in the message.
- BUGFIX: When you clicked a button in the editor's toolbar that opens a window, such as Insert/Edit Link, the cursor was put back in the message instead of in the window. You had to click into the URL box before you could paste a link. The cursor now starts in the window's first box, so you can paste a link and press Enter. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41479
Hashtags
- CHANGE: On a hashtag's settings page, the description of the Locked setting said that topics *created* with the hashtag would be locked, but topics are also locked when the hashtag is added to them later. It now reads "Topics will be locked when they are tagged with this hashtag. Topics that already have it are not affected." https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41333
Members
- CHANGE: The member list download on the Members page now includes a Profile Privacy column showing each member's profile privacy setting for the group:
profile_private(only owners and moderators),profile_membersorprofile_public. Previously, the only way to see who had made their profile visible to other members was to check the Directory from a non-moderator account. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41468 - BUGFIX: In the color menu on a member's page and on the Membership Defaults page, the No Color swatch was white with no outline, so it blended into the white menu and looked like an empty gap. It now has a thin grey outline, matching the Change Color dialog on the Members page. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41471
Group Settings
- BUGFIX: In dark mode, the box next to the group email address on the Settings page (showing "@groups.io") stayed light grey. It is now dark.
Subgroups
- CHANGE: Moderator notifications for a subgroup, such as pending messages, pending members, and new or departing members, started with only the subgroup's subject tag, so they looked as if they came from a separate group. They now start with the main group's subject tag followed by the subgroup's, for example "[main][sub]". The subgroup's own tag is unchanged, so email filters that look for it keep working. If a subgroup has no subject tag, nothing is added. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/41318
- CHANGE: Joining a subgroup of a subgroup required already being a member of the subgroup above it. People who weren't were sent to that subgroup to join it first, then had to go back and join again. Now, if the subgroup above is open to new members without approval, you are added to it and to the subgroup you asked to join in one step. This works when joining on the website, by email, or by accepting an invitation. If the subgroup above requires approval or is invite-only, you still need to join it first.
Calendar
- NEW: When adding or editing an event in a group that has hashtags, an Add Tags button next to the event name lets you pick hashtags to add to the name, the same way you can when posting a message.
- NEW: A new Default Event Color setting, in the Calendar section of a group's Settings page, sets the color that new events start with. Previously, every new event started out Cerulean Blue, and anyone adding an event had to remember to change it. Event creators can still pick a different color, and existing events keep their colors. Subgroups each have their own setting, so their events can be told apart on a consolidated calendar. https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/39166
- CHANGE: Several event buttons had icons that didn't match what they do. Edit Event and Update Event showed a plus sign, Delete Event showed a plus sign, and the Create button for name tags showed a trash can. They now show edit, save, trash, and tag icons.
- CHANGE: The View In Google Maps link on event pages now uses a secure (https) connection.
- CHANGE: We redesigned the event page so the most important information comes first:
- The top of the page now shows the event's date and time, time zone, how often it repeats, location and organizer together, along with labels when the event is canceled, locked or has ended.
- The RSVP section now comes before the event description.
- Your current response is shown with an icon, and its button stays highlighted with a check mark instead of looking grayed out.
- Events with an attendance limit show how many spots are filled and how many are left, with a progress bar. When the event is full, the page explains that saying you will attend puts you on the waitlist.
- Members see the pictures of people who are going, a count of who is going and not sure, and a link to all responses.
- If the event asks attendees a question, you can now change your answer with a Save button without changing your response.
- Once an event has ended, the page says so and the RSVP buttons no longer appear. They are also hidden for canceled events. Previously, you could still RSVP to past and canceled events.
- The edit, lock, responses and cancel buttons for organizers, which were at the bottom of the page, are now in a Manage menu at the top.
- The map now appears in the side column, under the calendar buttons.
- CHANGE: We reorganized the page for adding and editing events:
- The location and description are now in the first section, with the name, date and time, so everything most events need is together at the top. The location field notes that it can hold an address, a place name, or a link to an online meeting.
- The organizer's name, email and phone, and the event color, are now in an "Organizer and Color" section at the bottom that starts closed, since they are filled in for you.
- Instead of separate "Add Event" and "Add Event & Invite Group" buttons, there is now one Add Event button and an "Email an invitation to the group" checkbox. When editing, an "Email the updated event to the group" checkbox replaces the "Update Event & Group" button.
- When you save or delete a recurring event, the choice between this event, this and following events, and all events is now a list where each option is described.
- The RSVP section's labels are clearer. "Maximum # Attendees (0 means unlimited)" is now "Maximum Attendees", with a note that 0 means no limit and that a full event gets a waitlist. "Additional Information Requested From Attendees" is now "Question For Attendees", with an example.
- The days of the week for repeating events are now shown as Sun, Mon, Tue and so on, instead of single letters.
- The All Day checkbox no longer overlaps the timezone menu.
- The reminder options ("minutes before", "Send as special notice" and so on) and the "days/weeks/months/years" label for repeating events are now translated.
- CHANGE: We redesigned an event's Responses page:
- The top of the page shows the event's date, time and organizer, with a View Event button. The repeated event description and the "Invited" count (which was the number of members in the group) are gone.
- For events with an attendance limit, a bar shows how many spots are filled and how many are left.
- Buttons for All, Attending, Not Sure, Not Attending and Waitlisted, each with a count, show just the people with that response.
- Responses are shown as colored labels that are easier to read, including in dark mode.
- Removing one person now asks for confirmation in a window that shows their name, instead of a browser pop-up.
- On phones, the list hides the date column so names and buttons fit.
- In the grid view, every card in a row is now the same height. Long comments are cut off after three lines; hover over one to read all of it, or switch to the list view.
- The edit-guests, edit-comment and remove buttons beside each person are replaced by a single "⋯" menu with labeled choices. Remove from event is set apart at the bottom of the menu.
- CHANGE: We updated the group calendar and Your Calendar:
- The Add Event button is now at the top right of the calendar, next to the Month/Week/Day/List menu, instead of below the calendar. It no longer appears, grayed out, for members who can't add events. On phones it is a + button.
- On Your Calendar, and on a group calendar's Consolidated view, events used to start with the group's subject tag, such as "[beta]", which left little room for the event's name in the month view. The event's name now comes first, followed by the group's name in lighter text, and the event's details window shows which group it belongs to.
- The badge on events with an attendance limit used to show just a number. It now reads "18 left" (or "Full") in the list, week and day views, and shows a person icon with the number in the month view, where space is short.
- In the event details window, your response is shown as Attending, Not Attending, Not Sure or Waitlisted, matching the rest of the site, and "See more details" is now "View Event".
- The names of the calendar views (Month, Week, Day and List) are now translated after you switch views.
- CHANGE: The description of how a repeating event repeats, such as "Weekly on Monday, 10 times", was always in English. It is now translated on event pages, in event invitation emails and on the page for adding and editing events. A repeating event that ends on a date now shows that date in your preferred short date format.
- BUGFIX: On an event page, the map of the event's location appeared as an empty white box. The map now displays. If the map can't load, the box is hidden.
